Andersson fought off strong performances by Finland's Kirsi Vaelimaa and Virpi Kuitunen, who put in a strong showing for the host nation by taking second and third places in the A-final. Sweden's Anna Dahlberg settled for fourth.

In the B-final, which decides 5th through 8th spots, it was Claudia Kuenzel of Germany ahead of the recent World Sprint Champion Emelie Oehrstig of Sweden, and two more Finns–Mona-Liisa Malvalehto and Aino Kaisa Saarinen–who were cheered on heartily by the home crowd. Canadian Beckie Scott finished ninth while Sara Renner missed qualifying by 0.3 seconds, ending up 17th. Milaine Theriault had a solid sprint race, putting up the 24th fastest qualifying time. No other North Americans raced.
