World Championship 50-kilometer silver medalist, Anders Aukland of Norway took it easy this spring in order to make sure that he was completely healthy before he started pushing his limits.

Anders Aukland’s winter was a strange one. He lost the majority of first part of the race season due to long-term sickness. But the leaders had confidence in Aukland before Worlds and let him prepare without stress and pressure, and that resulted in a silver medal in the 50-kilometer classic race where Norway took top three. The rest of the season wasn’t much better than before Worlds. Aukland was bothered by sickness also at the end of the season.

He decided to prioritize recovery this spring rather that making up for lost training time.

– I took it extra easy in April in order to recover and be ready for the summer training, says Anders.

His body has responded and Aukland is now completely healthy. He proved that by winning last week’s Norwegian duathlon (run — bike — run) championship and is now training full time toward next season’s big event — the Olympics.
