and big periodization between hard training and volume training. A training philosophy that has made Marit Bjorgen the World’s best female cross country skier.

Hilde G. Pedersen has used her own training program the last two years and has not to the same degree as the other girls participated in the new program. Bjorgen’s success has however convinced Hilde to train as the other girls on the team.

– I have to do something in order to become better and it’s my engine that needs to be improved, says Hilde.

It’s for that reason going to be more capacity increasing workouts and more use of training blocks. This will be done by incorporating periods with almost only high intensity, and periods with focus on volume and lower intensity. Hilde has now just completed her first period with high intensity training.
– I was a bit tired at the end, it’s a big strain on your body, and I’m sore in several places, says Hilde. She is a little concerned about injuries and if she can handle the hard training.

– It’s going to be exciting to see how this will work, I don’t know if I can handle it. I’m not 20-years old anymore.

How big will the changes in your training be?

– I did 90 hard workouts last year, while Marit did 120. I will move toward 110 and see how it goes.

The biggest changes will be in how I bloc the training.

The changes means that Hilde who has skipped certain training camps the last couple seasons will participate in most of the camps this summer and fall.

– I will do all the camps where they are doing lots of intensity, says Hilde. She will also do more altitude training than what she has done the last couple years, since the Olympics are at altitude.

The Olympics is often on Hilde’s mind in her workouts and now she has her plans ready for how to be able to fight for medals during the Olympics in Pragelato.

– I’m at a good level now, but had to do something in order to become better and am convinced that this is what I need to do. I believe in this, says Hilde Gjermundshaug Pedersen
