, showed traces of Furosemide, a banned diuretic agent. Vittoz, who didn’t need to make the result of the A-test public, still chose to do so. The result from the B-test, which was analyzed at the same lab, was negative. According to the rules of The International Ski Federation (FIS), there is no doping infraction when both test are not positive.

FIS now reports in a press release that both tests have been tested again at the WADA approved laboratory in Rome. The new test showed the same result as previously.

The laboratory in Cologne, has in its 21-year long history never found different levels of Furosemide in A and B tests. Further test were therefore conducted in order to find out:

– If the a and B test was from different sources
– If activities of microorganisms is causing a degrading of Furosemide in the B-test.
– If Furosemide was added to the A-test.

Professor Dr.Wilhelm Schanzer, who is the chief of the doping lab in Cologne, has informed FIS and WADA the result of the tests confirm that the test came from the same athlete and the same urine sample.

No microorganisms were found regarding possible degrading, but the visual tests still shows differences between the A and the B test.

The positive A test is not proving if Furosemide came from the athlete’s body or not, since the source of what was found is unclear.

Several different scenarios surrounding the possibility that furosemide was added to the A-test have been tested without any result.

It has also been investigated if the tests were manipulated when they were conducted in Nove Mesto. The report from the chief of the doping control in Nove Mesto has claimed that the routines used were according to international standard and nothing extraordinary was observed.
