Junior World Champion Northug: – What’s Inside My Head Is What’s Important For Me In Getting Better From Here On

– What’s inside my head is what’s important for me in getting better from here on, but it’s clear that good training conditions helps in making the process easier, says Northug

– This is my fourth and final year in high school and I’ll finish up this spring. My first impression of Meraker is very good. Training vise it’s a paradise with many motivated skiers, says Petter

– I was looking for new challenges and had heard from friends that my new club, Strindheim in Meraker has lots to offer. I also live next to the ski trails now and can put the skis on outside my door when the trails are being set, says the junior World Champion.

Other skiers in Strindheim include Krister Trondsen and the record setter in last weekend’s 24-kilometer classic rollerski race Stig Rune Kveen. Together this group should have a very competitive relay team.

– I think we’ll have a good relay team for Nationals. We should be able to fight in the top if everyone are in shape, believes Northug who has other and more important goal this winter.

– The goal is to be in shape between January and February. My focus is on junior Worlds one more year, says the skier who captured two gold and two silver at junior Worlds in Rovaniemi, Finland

– I have tried to not make big changes since things went so well last year. I don’t know if I’ll become better or not this year, but I’m hoping for a certain amount of progress, says Northug.

Junior Worlds was at the end of March last winter while it’s at the beginning of February this year. Northug is therefore planning his peak earlier than last season. He also hopes to get a chance to race World Cup if he is still in shape after junior Worlds.

– My dream is to race the 50-kilometer skating at Holmenkollen on the national quota. That’s a big dream since it’s skating. It could happen that I get other chances as well, says Northug
