– I have trained well all spring and summer. Things are working well and I’m looking forward to competing again, says Norwegian Anders Aukland.

He is fully focusing toward the Tornio Olympics this winter, where he can capture his first individual Olympic gold. He will be among the favorites if he is in peak shape.

– The Olympics in clearly the main goal, but there are also many nice World Cup races before that. The 15-kilometer classic is my main goal. It’s a bit dumb to say that only gold is good enough, but my goal is to fight for gold along with many others, says Aukland.

Many were surprised when Aukland captured silver in the 50-kilometer at Worlds in Oberstdorf. He had been bothered by mono and poor World Cup results prior to Worlds.

The race ended with only Norwegians on the podium. Estil captured Norway’s first World’s gold on that distance since Gjermund Eggen’s triumph in the 1966 Oslo Worlds. Odd-Bjorn Hjelmeset captured the bronze medal.

– It was a very important race for me. It meant a lot for my motivation, explains Aukland.
