The Norwegian women’s team just returned from their first altitude camp of the season in Livigno. Marit Bjorgen and several of the other skiers hit the wall and didn’t finish one of the team’s first hard workouts, but assistant coach Egil Kristiansen is not concerned.
– We did a time-trial and that workout got a bit too much press coverage. Marit had a bad day along with several others. Things were functioning well again a few days later, says Kristiansen.
The Olympics is of course the main goal for hungry cross country girls. They are hoping to capture three gold’s and six total medals. The World Championship queen from Oberstdorf, Marit Bjorgen, will naturally be the big favorite.
– Hilde has been Marit’s biggest challenger lately. Several can match Marit in some races, but it will be tough to get to her level as the season progress, says Kristiansen.
