The Norwegian national team is still not on snow; instead they are making their own season opener in Klekken, Norway on rollerskis!
– It’s not optimal, but we don’t have another alternative, says national men’s coach Krister Sorgard.
The Norwegian team is rollerskiing at the same time as the Swedes are opening their season with (on-snow) races in Gallivare. The coaches had considered traveling to Sweden to compete, but decided that it wasn’t worth the effort since the Swedes only had a 2.5-kilometer loop for their opening races. The Norwegian skiers are instead getting together at Klekken for hard rollerski time-trials.
– The skiers will race 30-35 minutes classic on Saturday and 25 minutes skating on Sunday. Both distances as interval-starts, says Sorgard.
The results won’t say much about the skiers ski shape. The most important is that the skiers will get some hard workouts before the World Cup opening at Beitostolen the following weekend (November 19 and 20th).
– It’s probably not the best preparation for Beitostolen to not be on snow, but it won’t hurt us down the road says Sorgard.
He is positive to the fact that the skiers have trained more than normal at this time of year due to the longer drylandseason. He is hoping that this will be an advantage at the Olympics in February.
