Erin Hood, the second-place finisher in Wednesday's SuperTour classic sprint in Cable, WI, has trained for a number of years in the Anchorage-based APUNSC program and has worked her way up the ranks to become one of the main contenders on the national circuit. She says she hasn't peaked yet this year and hopes to keep building through the rest of the season. Here are a few of her comments right after the sprint.

F.S. How did the qualifying go?

E.H. -The qualifying was great, it’s a good course, and we had perfect conditions today. I think everyone was worried after skiing the course yesterday, and [the groomers] just made it beautiful. It’s good to wake up to a sunny day and nice tracks.

Were you able to conserve some energy in the quarterfinal?

-Yeah that was great, Naryshkina and I were able to ski away from everybody and ski it in nice and easy the whole last half.

It looked like you had really good power on the uphills, was that feeling good?

-That was feeling good, and I had really fast skis on the downhills too, so I was lucky all the time today!

Have you been training specifically for sprints, or just all-around?

-All-around. I think for me it’s just getting more practice doing National sprint races
I feel like it’s still kind of new to me.

How is your year going, do you still feel like you’re building a lot?

-Yeah I don’t think I’ve peaked yet this year, so I’m excited to keep on going with this tour and hopefully Canadian Nationals and Spring Series too.

Are you doing both races this weekend?

-Doin’ both races. I’m really excited about the 5k classic, it’s a really good course with lots of steep climbs that I think the power will be helpful on.

Great, well good luck, and good job today!
