Two North American men skied the individual qualifying round fast enough to earn a spot in the head-to-head heats in today's freestyle sprint in Davos, Switzerland. USA's Andrew Newell qualified 7th fastest, putting him in quarterfinal #2 where he went up against eventual fourth place finisher Loris Frasnelli of Italy, and among others, Boerre Naess of Norway who went on to win the B-Final for 5th place. Newell finished third in his 6-person quarterfinal heat, just two-tenths of a second from advancing and only .4 seconds from Frasnelli who came across first in the heat.
 of Norway, France's Roddy Daragon who has made the A-Final in World Cup sprints before, Switzerland's top sprinter Christoph Eigenmann, another top Norwegian Eldar Roenning, and Finland's Jari Joutsen. Goldsack beat out Joutsen and Roenning, and most impressively was only .9 seconds from the winner of the heat, Kjoelstad. </p>
<p>In the A-Final, it was Bjoern Lind of Sweden who found the extra speed to win the race, while Italy's veteran sprinter Cristian Zorzi proved he's still one of the main podium contenders, finishing 2nd today ahead of Norway's John Kristian Dahl.</p>
<p>Today's race was the final World Cup opportunity for the sprint specialists prior to the upcoming Torino Olympics.</p>
