The Norwegian women’s team has a new coach, but Kristin Stormer Steira (25) has no plans of dropping the old coach’s interval oriented training principles.

Stormer Steira made great progress by following Svein Tore Samdal’s training principles. The women’s team’s new head coach is Egil Kristiansen, but Steira continues to use the interval blocktraining introduced to the national team by Samdal.

Enjoys hard training
– I enjoy training hard more than long and easy workouts. Blocks with capacitytraining have worked well for me, says Steira.

The women’s team is more divided now than in the past seasons. Some have dropped Samdal’s block training, while others are doing a lighter version. Steira is one of those that are continuing with this training method.

She has made few changes in her training.

– There are no reasons to change something that works. The most important is to do another year with the same, says Steira.

Samdal is no longer the coach, but Steira is still frequently in contact with him.

– Egil is the team’s coach, while Svein Tore (Samdal) is more like an adviser.

Knee injury

Steira is struggling with a kneeinjury at the moment.

– I haven’t been able to run for two weeks. The plan was to take part in the Norwegian track and field championship at the end of July, but it looks like that’s out now. I’m still planning on doing some cross-country running races and other foot races (on pavement) this fall, says Steira.
