Nordic Skiing Coach for Paralympic Athletes

The Paralympic Committee, a division of the US Olympic Committee, has identified Northeast Passage as a Nordic athlete development center. Northeast Passage, program of the University of New Hampshire, is seeking a part-time Nordic Skiing Coach to assist in the development of a program to train Paralympic level athletes with physical disabilities or visual impairments.

This part-time position runs from January 2, 2007 — April 15, 2007 and requires a minimum of one evening and one weekend day per week for training and additional time for planning and recruiting. Travel is required to training and race sites. Current training sites include the Jackson Touring Center in Jackson, NH and the Weston Ski Track in Weston, MA. The coach will be responsible for recruitment of athletes, stewarding relationships with training sites, coordinating athlete training and competition schedules, conducting all in-season training sessions and assisting with other aspects of program development. Our target in year one, is to identify and begin development of three to five athletes. There is growth potential in this position. Salary is negotiable based on experience.

Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 year commitment
• Knowledge of New England Nordic skiing network
• Nordic ski racing background
• Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience
• Knowledge of dry land conditioning
• Knowledge of waxing
• Knowledge of disability preferred
