Laura Valaas Second In U23 Sprint

Laura Valaas finished second today in the classic sprint event at the Under 23 World Championships in Tarvisio, Italy. The race was won by Alexa Prochazkova of Russia, and Piret Pormeister of Estonia was third.

Morgan Smyth and Lindsay Williams, fresh off their top three finishes at NCAA Championsips in New Hampshire on Wednesday and Friday, finished 8th and 13th respectively.

Perianne Jones of Canada was 15th and Amanda Ammar was 35th to round out the North American women.

In the men's U23 classic sprint, Swedes Robin Bryntesson and Marcus Hellner took gold and silver, and Matias Standvall of Finland took bronze.

For the North American men, Tyson Flaharty (USA) was 24th, followed by Michael Sinnot (USA) in 25th. Brent McMurtry (CAN)was 32nd, David Nighbor (CAN) was 35th, Brent Knight (USA) was 40th, Bart Dengel (USA) was 52nd, Christopher Butler (CAN) was 63rd, and Phillip Wood was 66th.
