Today and the next week we will present a few articles covering safety, training and workout suggestions for those of you that are ready for specific training this spring. This is a reprint of a 2004 article.
When learning to rollerski, learn to snowplow and stop first.

Go slow from the top of the downhill on rollerskis – it's hard to slow down when you have reached a high speed. Stand up and make yourself as big as possible to increase wind resistance on top of the hill. Take your skis off and walk down hills that you are not familiar with or if you feel insecure or uncertain. Don't take unnecessary chances.
