US Biathlon Team in Lake Placid

Lake Placid, NY, June 27. The US Biathlon Team continues to move towards the new season with its second group training camp of the year at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid.

US Coaches Per Nilsson and Mikael Lofgren are closely supervising the athletes during a week of typical hard summer training, as they begin the next phase of their annual plan. During this camp, the team will be spending extensive time on the shooting range as well as continuing to build up their training base with roller skiing and running. Strength and flexibility work are big parts of the camp program, facilitated by the extensive facilities at the Olympic Training Center. The camp will end with shooting accuracy tests and time trials at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, VT on July 7.

Athletes in Lake Placid include National Team members Jeremy and Denise Teela (Anchorage, AK), Lanny and Tracy Barnes (Durango, CO), Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY), Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY), and development team member Caitlin Compton (Warren, VT). Compton, one the top cross-country skiers in the US began training for biathlon full-time this season with National Development Coach James Upham who supervises the resident biathlon program at the OTC.

The United States Biathlon Association is the National Governing Body for the sport of biathlon in the United States as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and the International Biathlon Union. The US Biathlon Association supports the US Biathlon Team and development of the sport on all levels within the United States.
