Track comeback for Aukland

Anders Aukland has a strong track running background. He has, however, only put his spikeshoes on a few times over the last six to seven years. But he will participate in the Norwegian track and field championship this weekend, ten years after he captured gold in the 10 000 meter and twelve years after he captured gold in the 5000 meter.

Hasn’t decided which distance he’ll race
– This is very good training that benefits me a great deal. I have not done any track training for a few years now, so my expectations are low, says Aukland

The Team Xtra athlete has still not decided which distance he’ll race.
– I have entered both the 10 000 meter and the 5000 meter. It’s most likely that I’ll run the 5000 meter, but my chances for a good place is probably better in the 10 000 meter, says Aukland.

Hellweek
Aukland ran a very good 3000 meter during the recent Ski Idol competition and has reached a small performance peak following that event. The Aukland brothers have now started something they are calling the hellweek.
– I’m hoping to be able to fight for a top 3 spot, but I know that at least two of the runners are very strong. It’s very open behind them and I’m hoping to hang on to the main pack. The competitions take place in the middle of a period with many hard workouts, but I should still be able to do well, he said.
Anders Aukland’s best track results: 5000 meter gold in 1995, silver in 1996 and 1997, 10000 meter gold in 1996 and 1997 and bronze in 1998.

His personal records are 13:57.6 in the 5000 meter from 1992, and 29:45.85 in the 10000 meter in 1997.
FasterSkier.com also seems to recall that he ran the 3000 below 8 minutes around the time he first made the national team.

Jœrgen Aukland will race the GrÃ¥tassen triathlon this weekend — a race he has won the last three years.
