The pre-World Championships World Cup here in Liberec has been quite the comedy of errors. It is disorganized and snow-less here, but the confused vibe around this event managed to overtake our team and caused us to have the Day Where Everything Went Wrong.
Both the things in and out of human control have been sketchy. A lack of snow coupled with temperatures too hot for snow making have left us with a 1.8 km loop of snow trucked in and mixed with rocks so that it looks identical to cookies'n'cream ice cream in some places and mushed up fudgescicle in others. Vanilla is not on the menu here and both Ben & Jerry will be contacted with regards to sponsoring the World Champs next year.
Regardless, the Canadian team has now got all the possible screw-ups out of our system all in one day. We're efficient that way… My day started as I woke up from a vivid dream that I had missed my start and my sprint relay partner Sara Renner was waiting in the tag zone for me. I looked again at my warm up plan and resolved to be even earlier than usual for my start to prevent the nightmare from becoming reality. At breakfast I found out that Madeleine Williams' cold would be preventing the dynamic duo of her and Sarah Daitch from starting. That was just the first of a series of unfortunate events for our team today…
