Golovko and Strandberg Win North American Marathon Cup

Andrey Golovko and Kristina Strandberg, both of the Factory Team, won the North American Marathon Cup. Strandberg, a native of Sweden, won easily, scoring 101 points, 49 more than second place finisher Nicole DeYong (Fischer/Craft). Liz Stephen (USST) and Evelyn Dong (Factory Team) tied for third, two points behind DeYong. Both Stephen and Dong won each of their starts in the the five race series.

On the men's side, Golovko narrowly edged Ivan Babikov (Factory Team) by one point – 91 to 90. Babikov, the overall SuperTour winner, had three victories in three starts, but Golovko raced all five events, winning one, on his way to the overall title. Zach Violett (Fischer/Craft) was third with 55 points and was the only skier (male or female) other than Golovko, to score points in all five races.

The North American Marathon Cup consists of five ski marathons over the course of the season. SCoring events this year were:

American Birkebeiner
US National Pursuit
US National Marathon

4. Zack Simons (Rossignol) – 46 points
5. James Southam (Rossignol) – 43 points

Women's Top 4:
1. Kristina Strandberg (Factory Team) – 101 points
2. Nicole Deyong ( Fischer/Craft) – 62 points
3. Evelyn Dong (Factory Team) – 60 points
3. Liz Stephens (USST) – 60 points
5. Martina Stursova (Rossignol) – 56 points
