Renner to Delay Start of World Cup Season

Canadian Olympic medalist Sara Renner will miss the first two World Cup events of the season to care for her daughter. With her husband, alpine racer Thomas Grandi, coming out of retirement to return to competition, Renner modified her schedule.

“You have to be flexible and you have to prepare for the unexpected,” Renner told the Calgary Herald. “When Thomas made his decision, our life changed and we sort of adapted to that. And it is wonderful. We saw our families a lot together in the summer.”

Renner skipped the 06-07 season while pregnant with daughter Aria. She made an impressive comeback last year, regularly scoring World Cup points, with Grandi providing support and child care on the circuit.

“This winter will be challenging because the racing schedule will bring us all over the place at different times. We do have a lot of help and I know it will be challenging,” said Renner. “But in some ways, having a child is the best distraction that you can possibly have, from even being an athlete.”
