Aspen, Colorado – The Owl Creek Chase was only one of two SuperTour races taking place as part of the Aspen Nordic Festival last weekend. A 5/10km mass start classic event was held on the 16th. As the race was also part of the Colorado Invite RMISA collegiate competition, the field was large and very competitive.

In the men’s race, Vegard Kjoelhammar (CU) edged the Saab Salomon Factory Team’s Andrey Golovko to take the victory by .3 seconds. Owl Creek Chase winner Matt Gelso (CU) was third, 26 seconds in back of the leaders. Rossiginol’s Zack Simons took fourth just .8 seconds behind Gelso.

Collegiate skiers took 16 of the top 20 places.

In the women’s race, Maria Grevsgaard (CU) made it 2 for 2 for CU, edging Saab Salomon Factory Team’s Kristina Strandberg by .6 seconds. Antje Maempel (DU) rounded out the podium, 28 seconds back. Her teammate Chelsea Holmes was another 19 seconds behind in fourth, and Rebecca Dussault (Saab Salomon Factory Team), winner of the Owl Creek Chase, was fifth, .3 seconds ahead of Martina Stursova (Rossignol).
