Last week (when it was still August) I didn’t go roller skiing in 44° and rain. I stayed in for the morning and worked instead. This morning, we had 50° and intermittent rain in Bend, and I went out the door. Granted, it was only for an hour (I love active recovery days), and 50° isn’t exactly cold, but it felt good to get out there in the weather. It was my first day of roller skiing in the rain since last fall, which says something about the weather in Bend over the summer, but also about my lack of toughness training from June-August. Today’s ski wasn’t long enough (or miserable enough – it was actually pretty enjoyable) to count as toughness training, but soon the time will need to come when I need to do real workouts in tough weather. When it does, I’ll be ready.
