Russian media are reporting that former Olympic champion Yevgeny Dementiev intends to return to skiing for the 2011-2012 season, after serving a two-year ban for a positive drug test.

Dementiev, 27, had retired after his sample from the Tour de Ski in January, 2009, turned up traces of the blood-boosting drug EPO. But according to GZT.ru, Dementiev has delivered a request for reinstatement to the Russian Ski Federation, which in turn was forwarded to the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Dementiev, 27, began serving his two-year suspension in August, 2009, and GZT.ru was reporting that he will be eligible to compete again in August of 2011. According to FIS rules, Dementiev will have to pass three drug tests before being reinstated.
