This past weekend I attended the Vakava Training Camp in Hayward, WI. This is the same camp that I went to last year and I have to say that this year the weather made it even better!
Vakava is a racing team based primarily on the East side of the Cities. They are from all different backgrounds and jobs but the one thing they have in common is the desire to SKI FAST. The Vakava racers can be seen at numerous local events throughout the winter as well as representing the Twin Cities at events in Europe, Ice Land, Scandanvia, Canada and at events like the World Masters Championships.
They have the distinct blue and white uniforms with the local Finn Sisu mascot. Dave Christopherson and Mark Ahers are the coaches and they make sure that the weekly workouts at Battlecreek and Afton and distance skis are pushing everyone’s limits.
