In an effort to reach a new audience, I boldly began a new blog on womentalksports.com recently. Women Talk Sports is a site where many female athlete’s blogs are linked, and people can read about women’s athletics. Users can comment, and some users can blog.
It is a well-organized site that has everything tagged and sorted by sport. Unfortunately, they’re pretty low on cross country skiers. I don’t know if we’ll ever be a hot item like the female basketball players on there… but it’s worth a shot. Since its focus is so summery, I think there is potential to reach people checking in in the wintertime when there will be fewer soccer and running blogs feeding into it. In any case, I have found a couple of short and fun blurbs about Nike advertising’s objectification of women, and learned that Hope Solo is in Dancing With the Stars. Of course, if I paid more attention I would probably know that already. But still, I think it’s a developing site and I will be interested to see where it goes. Check it out! My first WTS blog can be found here, and I encourage female skiers to try and get added to the feed!
