The United States Biathlon Association is seeking a coaching intern (applications due April 24) and seeking participants for its annual talent identification camp, for which no prior biathlon experience is necessary.

US Biathlon Talent Identification Camp

The talent ID camp will run from June 18th through 22nd at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York.

Camp Activities:

US Biathlon is looking for talented endurance athletes who are interested in becoming world-class competitors. The talent identification camp will help us evaluate your stage in this journey.

  • Shooting drills and precision test
  • Question and answer sessions with World Championship Medalist: Lowell Bailey, Susan Dunklee, Tim Burke, and Olympic Champion Andrea Henkel Burke
  • Final running Biathlon competition running at the Olympic Biathlon venue Mt van Hoevenberg

  • Gear for indoor and outdoor sport

  • Running shoes
  • Roller skis, ski boots, poles

Travel: Applicants are responsible for their own travel. Those arriving by air should plan to arrive in Albany, NY.

Housing & Meals: The camp will take place at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. Meals and lodging will be provided there free of charge.

 

The US Biathlon Team Coaching Internship

The U.S. Biathlon Association seeks an intern to be based in Lake Placid from June through November of 2017.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The US Biathlon Team Coaching Internship is ideal for nordic skiers and biathletes considering becoming a coach. The intern will work with the US Biathlon National Team athletes on a daily basis and live at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY where meals and lodging are provided at no cost. The internship begins in early June and continues through October.

SUMMARY

Support the training of the US Biathlon Team at their high performance center, the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY and contribute to the production of coaching education materials. The intern will work daily with the coaching staff and the athletes to provide excellent training conditions for the athletes. Duties will include planning and set up for training, timing, heart rate, and lactate measurements as well as timing and scoring of shooting sessions. The US Biathlon Team is coached by some of the worlds leading endurance sport coaches and the internship offers a great view into high performance endurance sport. The internship may include some travel with the team to a training camp in the fall. The intern will also work together with US Biathlon and US Olympic Committee coaching education staff to improve and produce new coaches education materials.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Planning the details of the training implementation with coaching staff
  2. Training setup and logistics
  3. Timing of training activities and timing/scoring of shooting performance
  4. Video training activities for analysis
  5. Assist with lactate measurement and other testing as needed
  6. Presentation of training data for coaches and athletes

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Educational Requirements:  Bachelor degree
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point & Outlook.
  • Passion for sport and the Ideals of the Olympic Movement
  • Nordic skiing competition experience
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA.
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors to support training in various weather conditions
  • Enjoys helping athletes & coaches achieve their goals
  • Valid drivers license

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT:

  • Standard Office Equipment and Applications:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook
  • Proficiency with internet search capabilities and usage telecommunications equipment, fax machine, copier

CONDITIONS:

  • Office environment in multi-story building on multi-building site
  • Much of the work will be done outdoors
