Norway is pulling athletes from World Cup competitions through at least the holiday break. This was widely reported Tuesday in the Norwegian press.

The Norwegian race hiatus includes stops in Davos, Switzerland, and Dresden, Germany.

“We do not know the consequences of infection in a fitness practitioner, who is dependent on good lung capacity, yet. Therefore, it has been the number one priority not to get an athlete infected, because it can ruin the season and possibly the career,” said Norway’s Cross-country manager Espen Bjervig to Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

For now, NRK is reporting that Norway’s Ski Federation has not committed to sending athletes to the Tour de Ski, which begins on January 1. NRK writes, according to a translated article,”The Norwegian Ski Association adds that there are no plans for Norwegian participation in the Tour de Ski as the situation is now.”

FS will update with any new information.
