Slim pickings to no-pickings on the World Cup. Last week it was announced the Norway round of World Cups, Oslo and Lillehammer, were canceled due to strict requirements to enter Norway during the pandemic. Before the weekend, one World Cup remained on the schedule: Nové Město in the Czech Republic. That final World Cup domino fell over the weekend when the Czech organizing committee pulled the plug due to Covid-19 restrictions.

A Reuters story stated, “The decision came after Germany, which is due to host world championship races from Feb. 25 to March 7, tightened conditions for travellers from the Czech Republic, which has struggled to control one of Europe’s highest infection rates of the novel coronavirus.”

According to the Reuters, skiers participating in the Nové Město races would be required to quarantine upon entering Germany and would miss the races scheduled for the Oberstdorf World Championships.

For now, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has not rescheduled any cross-country Worlds Cups for March.
