Strathcona Nordic Ski Club Seeks Head Coach

FasterSkierJuly 14, 2023

The Strathcona Nordic Ski Club is looking to recruit a Head Coach who shares our Club vision and values to support the development well-rounded athletes with a strong sense of self, a love of sport, and athletic excellence at their individual level.

Our Club is based out of Mount Washington Alpine Resort on the East Coast of Vancouver Island where we have 50 km of groomed nordic trails with incredible views, a long ski season, and a deep snowpack.

We live in an outdoor playground. The mountains of Vancouver Island offer endless opportunities for hiking and mountaineering. Down below in the Comox Valley there are more amazing opportunities for mountain biking, paddlesports, and even apres-sport sampling at the local brew pubs …the list goes on. Where else can you ski, bike, paddle (and golf if you’re so inclined) all in the same day?

The Comox Valley/Campbell River area are all within 40 minute drive of the ski hill and have a combined population of about 120,000 people with opportunities for rural or urban living depending on your interests.

We have a total Club membership of about 570 people with a vibrant Skill Development Program for our younger skiers (Bunnyrabbits and Jackrabbits) leading up through our Devo (development) program to our Junior Race Team.  A number of our Junior Racers are on the BC Ski Team or BC Talent Squad and we have seen exciting results at Provincial and National level race events which we hope to continue to grow. We have an enthusiastic Masters Race Team all pursuing their own racing goals.  We also have a strong integration with the Vancouver Island Biathlon Club where biathlon skiers wishing to reach higher performance levels join in our programs – particularly at the Junior Race Team level – and VIBC has been celebrating some amazing results.

We recognize that not all skiers are interested in racing and work to create programs where they can enjoy cross country skiing outside of the racing environment.

Our Head Coach is directly responsible for coaching the Junior Race and Masters Race programs and for mentoring coaches at all other program levels. For a detailed position description, please follow the link – https://www.strathconanordics.com/job-posting
