Green Mountain Valley School Seeks Full-Time Nordic Coach

Green Mountain Valley School, located in Waitsfield, VT, is seeking a dedicated, passionate, and mission-aligned Nordic Coach to join its cross-country ski program and help develop the next generation of champions and leaders.

As the Nordic Coach, you will work closely with the Nordic Program Director to design and execute training and competition programs for a talented group of student-athletes, ranging from U14 to post-graduate age groups. This is a full-time position that plays an integral role in both the day-to-day life of the program and its long-term success. You’ll report directly to the Nordic Program Director and collaborate with the broader GMVS community.

Key Responsibilities:

Athlete Development:

  • Assist in designing and executing comprehensive year-round training and competition programs.
  • Coach and mentor athletes across all levels in technical, tactical, and mental performance.
  • Support athlete development through video analysis, ski testing, and performance tracking.
  • Communicate proactively with athletes, families, and staff.
  • Leverage technology and performance tools to support athlete progress.

Competition and Travel:

  • Travel with the team to regional and national competitions, including Eastern Cups, Junior Nationals, Eastern High School Championships, and New England U16 Championships.
  • Attend GMVS training camps throughout the year (~6 weeks per year).
  • Support race-day operations, including ski preparation and athlete support.
  • Represent GMVS at regional and national summer development projects and events.

Program Operations:

  • Maintain a consistent presence at on-snow and dryland practices throughout the year.
  • Assist with planning and attend the annual summer GMVS Nordic camp.
  • Help manage program logistics, including equipment, ski preparation, and scheduling.

Community and Outreach:

  • Help grow the program’s visibility through social media and community engagement.
  • Support and participate in the local BKL program, including camps and festivals.
  • Contribute to a positive and connected program culture both within GMVS and in the broader ski community.

  • Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Ready to take ownership of key program functions based on interest.
  • Familiar with or eager to learn the demands of a competitive ski academy environment.
  • Current U.S. Ski & Snowboard member (or willing to become one).
