The World Champions from last year’s Sprint World Championship were unbeatable in the 200 meter sprint rollerski races in Hamar, Norway this Thursday. A local super-sprinter did however beat the rest of the World elite.
The “Super-Sprint” in Hamar had managed to attract much of the World’s elite sprinters, as well as the Olympic biathlon Champion Ole Einar Bjrndalen. Bjrndalen was however not speedy enough for the exceptionally short distance.
No one was able to beat the reigning Sprint World Champions from Val Di Fiemme. Thobias Fredriksson and Marit Bjrgen both won their respective finals.
In the two-person final heat, junior Ingrid Urdahl could not overcome Marit Bjrgen but did outski several strong women. The biggest surprise of the day came however in the men’s race where Tommy Aasen from Ottestad Sports Club skied himself into the A-final, but could not keep up with Thobias Fredrikson for the overall win. Last winter’s World Championship silver and bronze medallists, HÃ¥vard Bjerkeli and Tor Arne Hetland ended up third and forth respectively.
