The Alberta World Cup Society is pleased to announce to the International Masters Cross Country Ski Community that the Masters World Cup 2022 is just over six months away. We invite all Masters Cross Country skiers to join us in Canmore, Alberta, Canada.
At this time, the Organizing Committee for the Masters World Cup 2022 (MWC 2022) and the World Masters Cross-Country Ski Association are confident that the event will go forward as planned on March 3rd to March 11th 2022 – at the world class Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park. The Organizing Committee continues to have a plan and resources in place to make the event as safe and responsible as possible.
“It feels great to be able to announce that our plans to host the MWC 2022 are going forward. We are all looking forward to putting on a bib and racing the trails at the Canmore Nordic Centre. We know that, in this challenging time, there will be bumps in the road and trials and tribulations for our Organizing Committee and Competition Committee. These, however, should not take away from the excitement of hosting masters skiers from around the world next March in Canmore. I want to make sure all masters skiers know that we will do everything within our power to ensure the MWC 2022 is a safe event for all participants, officials, and volunteers. In collaboration with Tourism Canmore Kananaskis, we are proud to display the World Travel & Tourism Council Safe Travels Stamp, attesting that we are adopting SafeTravels health and hygiene global standardized protocols. The entire event is being designed with our COVID Coordinator to ensure that each element meets all requirements for personal hygiene, safety and protection.” said Norbert Meier, Event Chair, Alberta World Cup Society.
Registrations will open in October. In the meantime, please check out the Plan Your Visit page on the Masters World Cup 2022 website.
“As National Director of the Canadian Masters Cross Country Ski Association I am very excited with the announcement by the Alberta World Cup Society that they will be hosting the Masters World Cup in March 2022 in Canmore. With the last two Masters World Cups cancelled because of Covid-19, Canadian Masters are eager to once again compete against the best Masters skiers in the world,” said Bruce LeGrow, Canadian National Director.
“The International Board and Executive leadership of the World Masters Cross Country Ski Association (WMA) is both pleased and excited that plans and preparations for the 2022 Masters World Cup in Canmore will proceed uninterrupted into Fall 2021. It is universally recognized within both the WMA and the Alberta World Cup Society that health and safety concerns related to the pandemic are now and will remain the highest priority all the way until the Closing Ceremony in March. As of late summer, every marker necessary for this particular event to take place has been met or is on track. We are all also well-prepared to adjust plans as necessary as we closely monitor developments related to the pandemic over the next six months. We look forward to continuing our excellent partnership with the Alberta World Cup Society, looking forward to the safest and most enjoyable possible Masters World Cup come March 2022.” said John “JD” Downing, WMA President.
