The Department of Athletics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking applicants to fill the position of Assistant Women’s & Men’s Nordic Ski Coach. The Alaska Nanook athletic program is a multidivisional member of the NCAA, with 10 teams competing at the Division I and Division II levels. This is a 11 month position located on the UAF campus.

Duties:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of ski techniques, physiology, basic physics, ski waxing and ski selection, nutrition, and sports psychology.
- Ability to coach classical and skating ski technique.
- Ability to cooperate on development of strength training plans.
- Ability to demonstrate very strong organizational skills.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of flexibility and adjustability.
- Ability to problem-solve in a high-stress setting.
- Ability to cooperate on choosing and applying ski wax for college and national level of racing.
- Willingness to keep up with the newest ski waxing trends and to learn new application processes.
- Willingness to keep developing a coaching knowledge through US Ski and Snowboard certifications.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
A successful Assistant Coach will have a minimum of 3 years experience as a high level cross country ski athlete, preferably from a college program setting or comparable program. Past experience in coaching junior or higher level of adult skiers preferred.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- It is hoped that the Assistant Coach will have earned their degree while participating as an athlete at their institution.
- Cross country ski racing experience.
- B.A. or B.S. in Physiology, Biology, Physics or similar equivalent experience is welcomed, but other majors are not excluded. USSS Coaches education L-100, or equivalent is preferred.
- This position will provide further ski and NCAA related education.
This is a full-time, Grade 79, minimum $26.08/hr, DOE, 11-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
