James Southam reports on a late season ski adventure with Lars Flora in Alaska
For Lars' last day in Alaska this spring, we had planned a big adventure sea kayaking out of Whittier to get some unbelievable crust skiing out in Prince William sound. We loaded up and headed off down the road, only to get a call from the rental shop saying that it was too windy and they wouldn't let us take out the boats (it is still a bit early and we would have been pretty much the only people on the Sound, so not a bad call on his part). So what were we going to do?
We had brought our tele skis in case the crust was not quite ready and neither of us had been up Skookum Ridge which is only a few miles from the tunnel to Whittier so we figured we would give that a shot. Amazing day. Here's some of the photos.
