Rumford, Maine – Colin Rodgers (Fischer/Craft) and Kristina Strandberg (Saab Salomon Factory Team) won the SuperTour Classic sprint at Black Mountain. Rodgers posted the fastest qualifying time before winning each of his heats on the way to the overall victory.

David Chamberlain (Fischer/Craft, MWSC) took second, and Doug Debold (Middlebury) skied up to third after qualifying in 11th. Brayton Osgood capped an excellent day for Team Fischer/Craft skiers. Osgood was just off the podium in fourth, clearly recovered from the Craftsbury Marathon on Saturday.

Rodgers’ qualifying time was nearly three seconds faster than second qualifier Mike Argue. Argue did not fare well in the heats, being eliminated in the quarterfinals, and finishing 21st.

A total of 29 men contested the sprint, almost all at the elite level.

In the women’s race, Strandberg also led from wire to wire, in a small women’s field. Strandberg beat out Lindsey Dehlin (USST) in both qualifying and the A-final to take the victory. With only 9 women in the race, all skiers advanced directly to the semifinals following qualification.

Strandberg added to her overall SuperTour lead with the win. Dehlin is ranked second overall.

Rosie Brennan (USST/Dartmouth) rounded out the women’s podium. In an interesting occurrence, the final women’s results wre identical to the qualification round.

The SuperTour continues this weekend in Stowe, Vermont with a 5/10km freestyle in Saturday and 10/15km classic on Sunday. Pre-registration for both events closes today (Thursday) at 5:00 PM. Day of race registration is available for both events. Visit http://www.nensa.net for more information and to sign up.
