Photo Credit: Gowtham [Michigan Tech] The last two weeks have been a bit of a struggle for me. I travel well, but I hit the training hard on Monday after flying in from Lake Placid and I caught a virus. I took it real easy most of the week and started feeling better near the [...]

Results: http://www.superiortiming.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/SuperTour_Classic_Unofficial_Results.pdf The placing is a bit disappointing for me, but I feel myself coming back into form.  It was great to see my teammate Santi skiing strong and he helped lead me into the finish (caught me from 30 seconds back).  Boards were running great today.  Pretty solid day for the CXC Crew.  Hats off to [...]

Thanks to Rob Whitney for the photos. 15k, 7 seconds out of third for the day, passed 12 racers. My first winter trip to Rossland was a blast.  Thanks to Ethan and Alex for hosting us.  It was great to be so close to the trails.  I was able to train well and get in [...]

We just arrived in Rossland, BC.  Silver Star was great.  Lars caught me from 30 sec back at 7km.  We were getting splits that he was leading the race and I hung on as best I could.  To my surprise I finished 3rd my first NorAm podium.  I am a happy guy.

3rd Place in the 10k Classic SuperTour and my best FIS points ever (44.11) After a great start to the race season, plus an engagement, My CXC Teamates and I have stayed in West Yellowstone, MT for a week of solid training. It has been a tough, but good week with just under 24 hours [...]

The Ring

BrianNovember 29, 2010

Caitlin and I have been receiving a lot of emails and phone calls of congratulations.  Thank you for all the well wishes, we are very excited.  A lot of people have been asking about the ring. Matt Firth, a local artist from the Methow Valley custom made the ring.  We are not big on material possessions but [...]

I couldn’t be happier right now.  The racing season has begun and I have started it off with one of my best classic races of my life.  Things have only gone up from there. On Sunday I went out for a nice over distance ski and my first ski of the year on Windy Ridge. [...]

The family traveled out  to West Yellowstone to celebrate Thanksgiving and cheer me on in the first races of the season.  Our Turkey Day races consisted of a  Classic sprint and a Skate sprint.  Looking forward to a great winter of racing!

I didn’t know it could snow this much.  The snow just keeps coming down here in West.  7*4m intervals were hard and slow, with about 3 inches of fresh snow on the trail. Thank you Caitlin for taking video and lactates for me.

There is a dusting of snow in town but we headed up to the South Plateau for an easy classic ski this morning.  We skied in a decent track on Whiskey Trail.  Skis ran through to the ground every once in a while and it is definitely rock ski skiing. Maybe 5 inches up high [...]

One year during High School our cross-country running team warm-ups were misplaced so we decided to Tie Dye long sleeve shirts for the Team Uniform.  One of the guys on the team Pete had done a fair amount of Tie Dye and he helped everyone create some sweet shirts.  It was a lot of fun and [...]

I have thankfully received several wonderful gifts in the last week.  Today they made me a real happy camper. Kuan and Barry came across the ‘Wish List‘ here on xcSkiLife.com.  These are things that I consider luxuries but that would make the life of a ski racer a little bit easier and more comfortable.  Thank You. [...]

New Boards

BrianOctober 22, 2010

There are only a few things that will make me change my training plans for the day.  On Monday Cork sent out an email that the new Salomon skis had arrived.  Within minutes Matt Liebsch called about coming to check test and fit them.  I rescheduled my appointment with the mechanic in Duluth and postponed my [...]

I am settling back in to life in Hayward after Lake Placid and Chicago. This is an important recovery week for me to absorb all the training from the last three weeks.  With several afternoons off I have been enjoying spending time with my kids at the Boys and Girls Club. We built a little village [...]

We awoke to a crystal clear day here in Lake Placid for the Climb to the Castle roller-ski race.  On Wednesday we had to move out of the OTC and it rained for 48 hours in a nice reflection of our disappointment to leave the comfort of the cafeteria, laundry, ice baths and warm showers.  We did [...]

My plan for our 17 days in Lake Placid, NY has been to do two 7.5 day blocks of training.  The first one went really well, this second one has been a bit tougher.  This week is a bit little lower in volume and intensity but I can tell the fatigue from last week is [...]
