In a Biathlon competition the biathlete skis distances varying from 7.5 to 20 km and stops at the shooting range to shoot two or four times with both the distance and the number of shooting bouts depending on the type of competition in question.  Penalties are applied for missed targets.  For information about the sport and the event go to

Summer Biathlon combines target shooting with rollerskiing or running.  Athletes compete following similar rules and distances to the winter version of the sport.  Athletes carry rifles on their backs while rollerskiing but for the running events, rifles are left on racks at the shooting range. This event will be a gentle introduction to orienteering racing.  A short clinic will explain the basics of navigation using the orienteering map and simple racing strategies.  A mass-start race will follow the Canmore Nordic Centre trail system.  The clinic and race will be designed for first-time and intermediate-level orienteerers.  All fitness levels are welcome.  Individual, teams and family entries are invited.  A BBQ will follow.

The classic trail running race series comes to the Canmore Nordic Centre again in 2009.  Featuring distances from 6 km to a 1/2 marathon, this season-ending trail race is not to be missed! Enjoy this running race that incorporates single-track trails, hiking trails, x-country trails, ski runs and more. The Canmore Challenge Trail Races are back!  The best trail races in Canada will also be the host for the National and North American Mountain Race Championships bringing some of the world’s best to Alberta.  The Challenge is an event for anybody with distances from 4 km to 12 km.  The event will test your endurance around the breathtaking Canmore Nordic Centre Trails.  Don’t miss out on surviving the challenge.

This weekend event at the Canmore Nordic Centre includes kid’s mountain bike race and Alberta Cup Mountain Bike race.  Top racers will be vying for Canada Cup points, while kids will learn the basic fun elements of the sport! For more information go to
