Racers will will be welcomed by a new World Cup course when they take to the tracks in Saturday's freestyle sprint. Shorter than 2010, but longer and harder than 2008, the loop presents tactical challenges and some big climbs out of the start.
Kikkan Randall turned in her best World Cup classic distance result, placing sixth in the 10 k mass start in Canmore. Teammates Sadie Bjornsen and Holly Brooks joined her in the top 30 while Liz Stephen and Jessie Diggins were late scratches.
Justyna Kowalczyk is back on top of the World Cup podium, skiing away from the field to win the women's 10k classic mass start in Canmore, Alberta. Anne Kylloenen earned her first World Cup podium, while Maiken Caspersen Falla, took third for her first distance top-3.

Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins made it three weekends in a row with a U.S. podium, winning the team sprint in Quebec City over Germany and Norway. The win was a first in a team event for the American women.

Far away from the World Cup buzz in Quebec City there are NorAm races scheduled at Sovereign Lake Nordic in Vernon, British Columbia. A 10/15 k mass start classic and 10/15 k freestyle are on on tap, and the field is expected to be quite competitive between the domestic Canadian and American field on top of international skiers racing as a tune-up before the Canmore World Cup next weekend.
It has been 27 years since the World Cup landed in Eastern Canada. The big show is back, setting up in the front yard of the Quebec Parliament building. The unique course features a small jump, and the loop should favor American Kikkan Randall.
