After a hectic fall balancing school, travel, and skiing, I decided to take the a break from school this winter just focusing on skiing.  So a little over a week and a half ago I left Craftsbury and flew to Finland, starting what will be a two month stint in Europe. The first stop was in [...]

2011 Tour of Anchorage

In its 24-year existence, the Tour of Anchorage cross-country ski race, hosted by the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage, has grown from just a few hundred participants to almost 2,000 ski-enthusiasts—making it one of the largest ski races in North America. This year’s event, slated for March 6th, will start at the foot of the Chugach Mountains and wind through beautiful birch and aspen forests, around the University of Anchorage campus, through Anchorage’s midtown and...

The racing in Otepää was pretty damn good, as usual. No Estonians reached the podium, so they'd better start tweaking their "training." Worlds is just a few weeks away! The bibs were matter of fact. The female sprinters and male distance racers wore the logo of Swedbank, which is, unsurprisingly, a Swedish bank - "the leading bank in Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania." The range at Jericho played host to another set of biathlon NorAm races this past weekend. I missed the first ones right after Christmas because of a cold, so it was exciting to finally get down to race on what is essentially our home biathlon course. We go down there quite a bit to train [...]

Toko: Field Report from CXC from Minneapolis SuperTour Races

The Mayor’s Challenge SuperTour at Wirth Park (Minneapolis) was this last weekend, and we (CXC) were pretty excited with our results in both the classic and skate: In four races, we had four 1sts, two 2nds, and two 3rds — plus a few more finishes in the top-six, which pay out prize money. Races were held in frigid conditions, with a mix of man-made and natural snow, including a small amount which fell Friday night....

I spent Saturday morning out on the Methow Valley's race trails, helping to prepare skis for racers at the Methow Valley Pursuit.    Day 1 was a 10km individual start classic race. Conditions were hard-track klister skiing, with a track sno...
