A return to one’s roots can often lead to new opportunities. Such is the case with Kristina Trygstad-Saari, a Bozeman, Mont. native and Bridger Ski Foundation alumnus who has now taken the position as the ski club’s new elite and post-graduate coach for the 2014/2015 season.
One-hundred and forty-eight. That's the number of skiers who have descended upon the ski town of Park City, Utah to participate in the 2014 NCAA Championships. The four day event, which consists of two alpine and two nordic races, begins Wednesday and continues through Saturday. Torin Tucker, a 20-year-old Dartmouth junior, was skiing in the lead pack in the Craftsbury 50 kilometer on February 1st when he collapsed on a long climb up Sam’s Run. Despite the extraordinary efforts of other racers and emergency responders, no one was able to revive Torin, who died on the trail at the 42 k mark.
With his four years of NCAA eligibility completed, Sam Tarling will return to his roots to begin his professional career. The Maine native and 2011 NCAA 10 k freestyle champion for Dartmouth College will again race in the white and blue of Maine Winter Sports Center next season.
