USSA Ends Affiliation With High Plains Division; Western Leaders Ask Why

Rebecca Watson, the board chair of the High Plains division, was surprised by an email saying that USSA was ending the affiliation agreement with the division - without warning or a probationary period to improve the weaknesses that USSA says it finds in Wyoming. Others on the Cross Country Committee, which is now set to discuss the topic at USSA Congress, said they were also surprised.

Park City Nordic Ski Club is hosting the 2014 Intermountain Nordic Division Youth Ski Festival this February 22nd and 23rd at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City. The event is designed for cross country skiers aged 15 and younger. Junior Nationals: Intermountain Wins Close J1 Girls Relay; Rocky Mountain Boys Prevail

Of the six 3 x 3-kilometer classic relays at Junior Nationals on Tuesday — two each in the Junior 1, J2 and Older Junior divisions — only two were decided by less than 30 seconds and only one was up for grabs on the final straightaway. That race was the girls Junior 1 event, in which Intermountain edged Midwest by 3.7 seconds and Alaska by four seconds.
