SuperTour

Torin Koos (USST) skied to a convincing win in the freestyle sprint as the SuperTour stopped in the Methow Valley.  As a member of the US World Cup Team, Koos doesn’t have many opportunities to race domestically, let alone in his home state.  His thoughts on today’s race and the upcoming Olympics. The weather leading up to the race was rather lousy. What were the conditions like throughout the day? How did the course hold...

Valaas Happy to be on Home Snow

Laura Valaas (APU), a native of the Methow Valley, dominated the women’s SuperTour sprint today, leading wire-to-wire. “I was thrilled to be racing in the Methow again; it’s been a long time since I’ve had a ski race this close to where I grew up,” Valaas told FasterSkier. “Despite being slushy earlier this week, the course held up and remained fast throughout the entire day,” she continued.  “I really appreciated all the time volunteers spent...

Removed from their typical stadium setting, the start and finish areas were posted in the middle of the Volunteer Loop, a very typical heavily treed Rendezvous trail corridor. There was no staging area, no finish area, and relatively little spectator access. Ahhh, just...

As the sports world gears up for the Vancouver Olympics in February, the faltering economy has forced the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) to make cuts to its programs and staff. According to USSA Nordic Director John Farra, the American athletes with a chance at medaling at the Olympics have been insulated from the cuts. But both employees of the organization and some of the athletes who depend on it for financial backing have...
