Tim Burke

The first period of World Cup racing has come to an end and I could not be happier with the result.  Taking over the Yellow bib in the last race really was a dream come true for me.  I am honored to be the first American to reach the top of the World Cup rankings.  [...]

Tim Burke made history this morning as the first American to lead the overall IBU World Cup points list.  Burke started in 8th place in today’s pursuit ranked second, but skiied with fire to end the race in 6th – enough to bump Christoph Suman (AUT) off the top of the leaders list and take the coveted yellow leaders jersey.  Today’s 12.5 km pursuit was the third of three races in Pokluka, Slovenia  Burke had three penalties in a...

Burke has chance at Yellow Bib, Today a “Best” for Team Result; Amazing Awaits. . .

“I guess that’s the best team result I’ve seen so far”, head coach Per Nilsson couldn’t help smiling after today’s sprint competition in Pokljuka, Slovenia. With three US athletes starting in tomorrow’s pursuit there are plenty of things to be happy about – or to even pray for. Burke has Chance on Yellow Bib Tim Burke’s eighth place in the sprint competition would already be amazing without the fact that he has a great chance...

Today’s sprint was the second of a three-race IBU World Cup event in Pokljuka, Slovenia.  Russia swept the day in both women’s and men’s events, as Svetlana Sleptsova and Ivan Tcherezov won their respective fields. Tcherezov shot cleanly in both stages and took the win over Domi Landertinger (AUT) by 11 seconds.  In third by 42 seconds was Thomas Frei (SUI) with one penalty. Tim Burke of the U.S. had another stellar result, placing 8th with two penalties and finishing...

Burke Stays Hot in Slovenia, 14th in World Cup Biathlon 20km

Pokljuka, Slovenia – Tim Burke (USA) continues to be a force on the World Cup Biathlon circuit, turning in his 5th consecutive top-20 finish. Burke skied very well, posting the 3rd fastest ski time of the day, but he was kept off the podium by his shooting.  In the 20km individual, biathletes do not ski a penalty loop for misses, but are instead assessed a one minute penalty.  Only one skier ahead of Burke had...

I arrived in Slovenia two days ago for the third stop of the World Cup.  We have three more races here and then we get a little break for the holidays.  I am definitely starting to feel the effects of all of the racing over the past two weeks and I am looking forward to [...]

Last weekend at the IBU World Cups in Oestersund Tim Burke finished on the podium twice, the best results of his career and a historic weekend for U.S. Biathlon.  This weekend in Hochfilzen, Austria, Burke placed 20th in the sprint and pulled himself up to 10th in the pursuit.  After several errors in the sprint erased his chance for Friday’s podium, Burke nearly matched the winning performances on Saturday as he blazed the pursuit race.  Reflective of his errors, Burke also tries to keep an even...

Today was the second race of the IBU World Cup weekend in Hochfilzen, Austria.  The 12.5 km pursuit finish came down to a sprint finish, as Emil Hegle Svendsen (NOR), Simon Eder of (AUT), and Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR) entered the stadium together and traded leads several times before the finish line.  Bjoerndalen, who missed 2 targets in the third stage for a total of 3 penalties was still able to stay competitive with Svendsen and Eder, who only had...

Rossignol’s Nordic Team Starts the Season Strong with
Top Finishes in Early Races

Rossignol’s Nordic Team is proving their strength right out of the gate. After the first couple weeks of races Chris Cook is 2nd overall in the Supertour, Aino Kaisa Saarinen is 1st overall in the World Cup, and Tim Burke is 2nd in Biathlon World Cup. Chris Cook (Steinbock Racing Team) kept his podium streak alive in Bozeman, MT last weekend finishing 3rd in the 15km classic. That is his third podium finish this season...

It has been a big weekend for Tim Burke, and he still has one race to go.  Thursday’s second place followed by today’s third place finish  at the Ostersund Biathlon World Cups combine to make Burke the only American to have captured 2 podium races at the same event.  These were also the first (hopefully just the start!) podium finishes in Burke’s career.  Burke admits that he is usually a better sprinter, but hopes that today’s successful distance...

This morning in Oestersund, Sweden, Tim Burke proved that his podium performance on Thursday was no fluke by racing to another podium finish in the second of two individual World Cup Biathlon races.    For Burke, whose second place finish in Thursday’s 20km race was one of the top finishes in US biathlon history, this weekend will combine to be a historic set of races for both Burke and the team. Ole Einer Bjoerndalen of Norway took first by...

Yesterday Tim Burke of the US Biathlon Team posted on of the top US results in the history of the sport, finishing 2nd in the 20km World Cup race in Ostersund, Sweden.  Burke took some time out from preparing for tomorrow’s sprint to talk with FasterSkier about his historic performance. You have been very close to the podium on a number of occasions. What was different this time? I think the difference for me yesterday...

Yesterday was a huge day for me and it felt great to finally step onto the podium!  I had a really strong feeling over the last week that my form was good but I did not want to jinx myself by talking about it.  I was definitely excited after the race but I also felt [...]

I am currently in Ostersund, Sweden waiting for the start of the World Cup in a few days.  Another training season has flown by and now it’s time for the fun to begin!  These last few days are pretty relaxed for me, as I need to be completely rested for the first block of World [...]

I arrived in Bruksvallarna, Sweden two days ago for our World Cup prep camp.  The trip over was really smooth and I feel that I am adjusting well to the time change.  The ski conditions are super here and they have over 30 k of well-groomed trails.  It feels great to get back on snow! I [...]

We now have less than 100 days until the start of the Games in Vancouver and under a month to the start of the World Cup!  It’s crazy how fast time has flown by. The last few weeks have been super busy for me.  I was out in Utah at our fall training camp for three [...]

I’m out in Utah right now at our last dry-land training camp of the year.  Training has been going really well but I have also been super busy.  Olympic years are always a little different in that we have a lot more responsibilities to the media and the Olympic Committee.  This is actually just a [...]

I arrived home from Germany last night after a brutal travel day of 26 hours.  Despite taking over a day to travel home, none of my bags made it.  Nevertheless, it feels great to be back home after seven weeks on the road! I spent the last two weeks of our Europe camp in Oberhof, Germany.  [...]

Here are some pictures from my recovery week in Ruhpolding. Of course my recovery week had some training sessions as well, although I trained less then half of what I train in a normal week.  Yesterday we also participated in a relay race at German Championships.  This was hands down the worst relay that I have [...]
