Swedish SkidSport.com reports that national team captain Per-Erik “Peken” Ronnestrand wants stronger, tougher and faster women this winter.

They are going to accomplish that in part with special training in the hills around Sundsvall this week.
– We are doing many interval sessions this week and the skiers will be able to challenge each other in certain workouts, says “Peken”.

Sweden’s national teams started their camps on Monday this week at two different locations in their preparations for the Oberstdorf, Germany Worlds in February.

The men’s camp is from August 2 – 11 in Bruksvallarna where hard workouts in bog and mountain terrain wait the skiers. There will be no long and slow workouts, but hard effort from day one.

– The women’s team is guaranteed a sweaty week. We want to increase the skiers strength, speed and toughness with head-to-head competitions, says “Peken”
– I want the girls to fight each other in the uphills and this way push them to the effort that is needed in order to increase their maximum capacity.

The camp profile in Sundsvall reflects the increasing number of competitions that are decided with mass-starts, pursuit and sprints.
– We are trying to “sharpen” the intensity one step and lead the development, says “Peken”
