Green Light for World Cup in Liberec Despite Poor Conditions

The Viessmann FIS World Cup Cross-Country events in Liberec (CZE), scheduled for February 16-17 have been confirmed. The Organizing Committee of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 gave the green light for the test events at the newly-built Vesec Cross-Country Stadium. Due to the lack of snow, the competition program will be changed from the planned Pursuit races to a free technique distance race with interval start – 10 km for women and 15 km for men. The starting times remain as scheduled.

“We are happy to be able to stage the test events for the World Championships in Liberec. The weather there continues to be mild and the ground is not frozen but the Organizing Committee will make a great effort and bring snow from the surrounding mountainous area to Vesec. The change in the competition program was necessary due to not having enough snow for more than a 2,5 km loop. This loop will also be used for the Nordic Combined competitions,” says FIS Race Director Cross-Country, Jürg Capol.
