A Summer Away

emContributed by Raleigh Goessling/em – This summer I had the opportunity to go train at a world class venue in a town that was enthusiastic and supportive of Biathlon. I skied on a rollerski loop with World Cup athletes. I received great support from local families and community members, and was coached by a National Team coach. I didn’t go to Torsby Sweden, Ruhpolding Germany, or Lillehammer Norway. I spent my summer in Fort Kent, Maine. br / br /I arrived in Fort Kent in early June. I immediately jumped into training. The rifle training was much more intense than I had ever experienced. Each shot taken had a purpose. The workouts where structured and there was always a goal for each session. I was thrilled to receive such specialized coaching. I learned a lot about shooting mechanics and training. It was really cool to be doing the same drills as National Team members and often doing them side by side with these athletes. This solid base of accuracy shooting was one of the most beneficial parts of my summer training. br /br /
