Friday I arrived home from Whistler and the second half of the camp was amazing! On Monday we had a classic time trial. Most of the NEG kids did the distance time trial, but Sadie and Erik Bjornsen did the sprint. The distance race was 8km for girls and 10km for guys. We all did pretty well and I was last but I wasn’t too far behind. While the distance race was going on, the sprint prelims took place so the distance skiers got to watch the sprint heats after their race. It was awesome to see Sadie and Erik mixing it up with the USST people. In the afternoon we played a really fun game of soccer, East against West, the Mississippi River was the dividing line. We played at Quest University, which is a Canadian university about two miles out of Squamish up on a dirt road. It is the most beautiful university I have ever seen and it only has about three hundred kids because it is very new. We then did about forty minutes of a tough strength circuit.br / On Tuesday we took a hike. The mountain is called the Black Tusk because there used to be a glacier there and then a volcano erupted and the volcanic rock froze in a big blob on top of the mountain. It was an amazing hike and we had great views and some extreme climbing. At the top we had to walk along a rockslide, which totally scared me and then we got to the Black Tusk. To get the top of the Tusk, one has to climb up a vertical wall. I stayed at the bottom because I am too scared of heights and I knew I would not be able to make it to the top, but everyone else went up. This enabled me to get a lot of good pictures of them climbing. Once home, we bought a big pad of paper and markers and we all drew pictures to hang on the wall to make the house livelier. We also bought fake flowers to set the tone in the room!br / On Wednesday, we had to wake up early because we were double poling with the USST twenty-five minutes north of Whistler. It was a nice OD and we got tired arms. After the ski we went into Whistler and had lunch there at a burrito shop and it was delicious. Then, Jessie and Annie went bungee jumping! It was very cool to watch and I got good pictures of both of them. That afternoon, we played another unforgettable game of soccer in which the East eked out a ten to nine victory over the West!br / Thursday was the last day and in the morning we did level three skate intervals. It all went well, but David and Max fell. After the ski we took some group photos and we had to say good-bye to the Sun Valley NEG kids who are staying in Whistler for a few more days. In the afternoon, we made the drive to Seattle and dropped off the Bjornsens and Annie. Then the remaining six of us went to dinner and we went to see the Hangover before crashing in a hotel. Friday morning we flew out of Seattle. None of us wanted to leave the camp because we had had way too much fun! When there are twelve people sleeping on the floor of one house and sharing one bathroom, it is hard not to get to know each other. We had fabulous team chemistry, great coaches, awesome training, and an amazing time. Thank you to our coaches, Ben Husaby and Chris Mallory, for an amazing camp that none of us will ever forget!br /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_H2SCM3lmKm8/SqLTniwn4MI/AAAAAAAAA60/PtCqPltGPXw/s1600-h/101_2650.JPG”img style=”display:block;
