Last Friday, the International Olympic Committee re-elected IOC President Jacques Rogge for a second term of four years until 2013, by an 88-1 vote, at the close of the 121st IOC Session.
“We have much more to do,” commented Rogge and indicated one of his top priorities to be to implement the recommendations of the recently completed XIII Olympic Congress (for complete text of Congress recommendations click here). He also emphasized the importance of the new Youth Olympic Games, which will debut in Singapore in August 2010, followed by the Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 2012.
In terms of further Olympic news, cities interested in hosting the 2018 Olympic Winter Games have until Thursday, 15th October to submit their applications. The election of Rio as host of the Olympic Summer Games 2016 took place just days ago in Copenhagen, yet the race is about to start towards the next election scheduled to be held on 6th July 2011 in Durban, South Africa. The confirmed candidates so far include PyeongChang (KOR), Munich (GER) and Annecy (FRA).
