After the race yesterday I hustled back here for a massage and then went to town to spend the night out of the village with my family. A great break and my first real time spent up in Whistler since I got here. It’s a whole other world up there. Our existence is pretty mellow and uneventful. Outside of skiing, eating and sleeping most of our time is spent in the dining hall or resting/relaxing. Up there it was just really busy and packed. Pretty fun to see but I was ready to get back in the cocoon of the village.

Yesterdays race was much better than the first unfortunately it just took a while to fell like myself. Rather than ski relaxed in the pack and pick up places when it made sense and wouldn’t take too much energy I started out skiing way too tight and tried to force my way up. Wasting a lot of energy and I ended up further back as a result. A group of 4 of us started skiing together 4k from the ski change but then I took a digger with 1-2k from the exchange. Once I started skating I started to feel better and better and found another group of 3 to ski with. I felt like they were going a little slower than I would like but I needed a little rest after skiing on my own for quite a while. On the second of 4 skating laps I made a little gap on the group over the only steep climb on the course but they caught back up to me on the flats a few minutes later. I tried again on the same climb on the third lap with the same result. Finally on the last lap I did the same thing and got away from them and tried unsuccessfully to bridge up to the next group. Not the result I was hoping for but I felt better as the race went on which is a good sign for the races to come. The 4x10k relay on the 24th and the 50k classic on the 28th.
