Intensity in Ten Cities…

FasterSkierSeptember 11, 2010

This morning we completed the second of four intensity sessions for our seven-day camp here in Sun Valley. Given our focus so far this summer on strength and aerobic base training, these sessions have been a unique challenge for us; it’s been great to put the hammer down alongside the USST and Sun Valley ODT guys. Yesterday we had a skate sprint simulation – four time trials to represent the qualifier, quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals. Because of the narrow roadway we had to run the heats individually with 15 second intervals, which greatly intensified the effort of each one. For my sake, I definitely took the first one out too hard; focused on wanting to make a solid standing I probably burned a majority of my ATP stores in the long climb in the qualifier. After that it became a matter of holding on each time. We had 40min rest after the qualifier, 30min after the quarters, and 15min after the semis. Needless to say I was fried at the end.br /br /Today’s workout was a different story. The plan was 5x3min double pole, level 4. The course was a gradual uphill grade through a subdivision and given the width of the road, all the guys were able to ski at the same time, making for a fun pack of about 15 athletes hammering along together. My plan today was to be a lot more conservative through the first several intervals and then, provided I felt good during the last one, give a little bit more to open it up.br /br /Tomorrow’s a 3hr OD run then we have 36hrs off before Tuesday’s 3.3km skate prologue in the evening, and Wednesday morning’s 10K classic TT. Recover right, keep on moving. Stay tuned!div class=”blogger-post-footer”img width=’1′ height=’1′ src=’https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2910103639238326543-769771014655102937?l=methowolympicdevelopment.blogspot.com’ alt=” //div
