Today was the first day of our Tour Of Southern VT. The plan…hike/run 15-20 miles on the AT/LT from Mad Tom Notch to Little Rock Pond. We had an option to cut off a couple of miles early (which the young girls did) and to cut of 3 miles just before lunch (which a couple more people did). But..it all worked very nicely with everyone descending on Little Rock Pond within 1/2 hour of each other. There, we had a great swim and lunch and then an easy 2 mile hike out to our waiting vans.
The group gathers at the start.
14 miles done, 4.5 more before lunch, time for some liquid refreshment!
Anya, Paddy and Hamish have been having some leg problems so they roller skied 2 hours and then helped us carry food in to the pond.
Actually..the bag cooler is full of cold cuts for lunch.
After 18 miles of running through roots, rocks and mud, a dip in the pond was a welcome relief. Above, Gino launches in.
Lunch line.
Funny thing how a 3.5 hour trail run can make you hungry.
Heading out after lunch.
Ahhhh…
A bunch of our Devo group joined us for the hike in to Little Rock Pond.
All smiles at the end of the day.
Gage hefts the chainsaw for a little strength work. There was a tree down on the road to Little Rock Pond which made our support vans take a 50 minute detour. Luckily John Ogden zipped back and cleared the tree so we had an easy return trip.
